Pilgrim collapses to death moments before arriving at final destination

The Police at Kira Division are investigating the mysterious death of a pilgrim.

Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO KMP identifies the deceased as Arinitwe Jack line, 49 a peasant at Katokori Village, Kyanarwa Parish, Katanda sub-county in Rubirizi District.

The incident happened today 30/05/2022 at about 11:30 am in Namugongo Parish, Kira Municipality Wakiso District, between the Catholic and Anglican shrines. 

Arinitwe was among the 90 pilgrims who had trekked from west Ankole diocese ahead of the martyrs’ day celebrations slated for Friday 3rd June. However, she died at least a kilometre or less from her destination.

It is still unclear what caused her to collapse and die, but her body has been conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem to help establish the exact cause of death.

“The police would like to convey their condolences to the family of the deceased person and also advise all pilgrims to always rehydrate in a way of taking enough water and also have enough rest during the pilgrimage,” says Owoyesigyire.

Thousands of pilgrims have walked from different parts of the country and others from outside Uganda.
