Museveni tells leaders in Kitgum to focus on converting locals from Subsistence to commercial Agriculture

President Yoweri Museveni has urged leaders from Greater Kitgum, i.e Kitgum Agago, Lamwo, Pader, to identify within each parish people who still engaged in subsistence agriculture and convert them to commercial agriculture.

Museveni says if this is done, even with what has been achieved already, the sky is the limit. The president who is also the NRM Party Presidential candidate was Tuesday meeting the leaders as part of his scientific campaigns ahead of the 2021 election.

The President noted that he was pleased to visit this region when peace and development are now in place. “I congratulate the people of Acholi region for this progress. Working with the NRM, they have ensured that this peace is safeguarded” he said.

Mr. Museveni added that Uganda is experiencing peace that is attracting investors who are helping in solving the challenges of essential commodities, providing employment to Ugandans and revenue to the government.

He added that these milestones are not out of the blue, the NRM has deliberately put in place policies to achieve them thus qualifying it as the only party suitable to run the country.

The president is meeting leaders in different regions as his campaign strategy, to avoid crowds and mass rallies that could potentially cause a spike in the cases of COVID-19.

He insists that if people die, then there won’t be anyone to secure the future for, yet that’s his campaign tagline. His opposition counterparts have however used this to mock the president claiming he is too old and in the vulnerable age group that could easily succumb to COVID-19 if and when affected.
