Muhoozi promoted to General, dropped as Commander Land Forces

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also Commander in Chief of the armed forces has promoted the first son and Commander Land Forces Lieutenant Muhoozi Kainerugaba for UPDF to a General.

The promotion was announced by Brig Gen Felix Kulaigye the defence spokesperson on Tuesday afternoon. General Muhoozi also retains his duties as Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.

The president also promoted Major General Muhanga Kayanja to Lieutenant General and appointed him Commander Land Forces, replacing Gen Muhoozi.

The first son told his followers this morning that he had met his father and held discussions, whose outcome would be announced later today.

The changes come after a series of tweets by General Muhoozi in which he threatened to command his army to take over Nairobi within a space of two weeks.

The tweets did not go down well with the neighbours, causing diplomatic tension.

Gen Muhoozi has since announced a victory party to celebrate his new rank.
