Mubende Mobile Money Agent Attacked, Shs 9 Million Stolen in Armed Robbery

Police in Mubende District are hunting for assailants who attacked a mobile money and banking agent, identified as Taremwa Vincent, a 44-year-old resident of Kasambya B Ward in Kasambya Town Council.

The incident occurred at around 19:40 hours on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, when armed robbers allegedly trailed and ambushed the victim as he was heading home.

According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, the PRO for Wamala Region, the victim was attacked at a junction leading to Brac Bank in Kasambya Town by two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle.

The suspects reportedly confronted Taremwa, demanded his bag, and injured him by cutting his left palm with a knife. They also fired gunshots in the air, forcing him to surrender a bag containing Centenary and DTB agent banking machines, two mobile phones with agent lines, and approximately Shs 9 million.

The victim reported the matter at Kasambya Police Station and was taken to a nearby clinic for medical treatment.

Police said the scene of the crime was visited and documented by detectives from Kasambya, and a spent cartridge was recovered, indicating that the attackers were armed with an AK-47 rifle.

Statements from witnesses have been recorded, and investigations are ongoing as police intensify the search for the suspects.

Police have urged mobile money and banking agents to remain vigilant, especially during movements and at their business premises, noting that they are often targeted due to handling large sums of cash.
