Justice Kwesiga warns detectives against coercing confessions from suspects- Video
Officers of Uganda Police Force have been urged to be professional and stop forcing confessions from suspects. The warning was sounded by Justice Wilson Kwesiga the head of criminal division of the High Court.
Justice Kwesiga was addressing the officers during the opening ceremony of a two -week refresher course for detectives on Homicide at CID headquarters in Kibuli.
He further warned that the detectives’ main aim should be justice for all parties involved in the case rather than convictions. The CID director, AIGP Grace Akullo said the two- week refresher course will help homicide investigators develop knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently manage cases.
Also present at the event was Hon. Justice Jane Frances Obodo, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Representative of the JLOS and other senior police officers from Police Headquarters.
Participants in the training have been drawn from In service Homicide department, the Directorate of Forensics and ODPP Homicide Department.
The course which runs from Tuesday 15th September until 25th September 2020 is being held under the theme, “Enhancing, Efficiency and Effectiveness in Homicide Investigations.”
