Four Maracha District Officials arrested over corruption

Four officials of Maracha district have been arrested for abuse of office and misuse of government funds which were meant for the construction of buildings at Kololo Seed Secondary School, Maracha District.

The officials were arrested on Monday 13th June 2022 when they had come to record statements at the Arua Regional CID office, but some of them ended up being arrested and detained at Arua CPS.

The officials include; Ms Osoa Flavia the District Education Officer(DEO), Mr Abiribale Paul Titia the District Internal Auditor, Mr Ezati Timothy Maluma the District Senior Civil Engineer, and Ms Avako Nolah the District Environment Officer.

SP Angucia Josephine PRO West Nile Region says the arrests were effected after the CID carried out general inquiries and investigations into the above allegations made by whistle-blowers and reporters.

“When the Regional CID team visited the school in question for inquiries, it was discovered that all the construction works which were supposed to have been completed using the 1.9 billion Ugandan shillings were not completed, yet the money was signed for and used up. This prompted them to summon all officials who signed the Certificate of Payments and played a role in the unfinished school construction works” says Angucia.

She added that other suspects are still at large and they have been summoned to the police to assist in investigations into the matter. The suspects will later be transferred with the case file to CID headquarters, Kampala for further management.

Angucia urged members of the public to share any information relating to corruption with police to help with the arrest and prosecution of the corrupt officials.
