5 killed, 2 others severely injured as Gas station perimeter wall collapses in Makindye

Five people are dead and two others were severely after a wall fence of Good Luck Petrol Station collapsed and hit the rental properties belonging to Ms. Nalumansi Proscovia which are located in Kanyanya Cell, Ndejje Parish, Ndejje Division, Makindye Sabagabo.

Luke Owoyesigyire the PRO KMP says that police officers at Katwe and Ndejje stations were informed about the incident and acted swiftly in response.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue services, supported by the local community, initiated rescue efforts. Unfortinately, five lives were lost in the tragic incident.

The victims have been identified as Phiona Nabulumba, Nabunywa Geofrey, Moja Fuuku, three-year-old Liana, and Doreen.

Two other individuals, Mukisa Gladys and Sadat, sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at different hospitals. By press time, the rescue team, assisted by an excavator, was working to confirm if there are additional individuals trapped under the rubble.

“While rescue operations continue, Katwe Police has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the root cause of this unfortunate incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the perimeter wall belonging to the petrol station weakened due to heavy rainfall, ultimately leading to its collapse onto the rental properties,” says Owoyesigyire.

Adding that the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination.

He urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and provide any relevant information that may assist in the ongoing investigation.
