28-Year-Old Businessman Gunned Down in Amuru

Police in Amuru District have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who shot and killed a local businessman on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Nizeyimana Obed, a trader dealing in clothing and mobile money services. He was gunned down at around 9:00 PM on May 15, 2025, at his shop in Labongo Village, Pagak Parish, Amuru Town Council.

According to ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Public Relations Officer for the Aswa West region, preliminary investigations indicate that Nizeyimana was attacked by three armed men riding a motorcycle without a license plate.

The assailants reportedly fled the scene with an unspecified amount of cash. Police, assisted by members of the community, mounted a pursuit that forced the suspects to abandon the motorcycle and escape on foot through nearby bushes.

Detectives from Amuru Central Police Station, led by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), responded to the incident. They documented the scene, recorded statements from key witnesses, and recovered the motorcycle used in the crime, which has been taken as evidence.

The body of the deceased has been transported to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that may assist in tracking down the suspects.
