Deadly Crash at Mukono-Wantoni Junction Claims Three Lives
Three people are dead and ten others are nursing serious injuries following a road crash that occurred last evening, 20 May 2025, at around 9:00 PM at Wantoni Junction along Jinja Highway in Mukono District.
The accident involved four vehicles, UBB 422U (Mitsubishi Fuso), UBP 359W (Toyota Hiace), UAW 042E (Toyota Hiace), and UAQ 398L (Toyota Hiace), as well as five motorcycles: UFL 976T (Bajaj), UFN 916P (TVS), UEU 698W (Bajaj), UDK 495B (Bajaj), and UDZ 777A (Bajaj).
SP Kananura Michael, the CLO for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, stated that according to preliminary investigations, the driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso truck (UBB 422U) reportedly lost control at Wantoni Junction and veered into the opposite lane.
The truck collided with several vehicles, motorcycles, and roadside food stalls, resulting in the instant deaths of three people and injuries to ten others, including pedestrians, motorcycle riders, drivers, and passengers.
The injured were taken to various medical facilities, including Mukono General Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
All vehicles and motorcycles involved in the crash have been towed to the Mukono Police parking yard and are currently awaiting inspection as investigations begin.
