Tragic Accident Claims Three Lives in Wobulenzi
The traffic police of Wobulenzi recorded a fatal accident today, May 25th, 2023, at 04:25 am, at Busula trading center along the Kampala-Gulu highway. The incident has resulted in the loss of three lives.
The accident involved a Mercedes Benz trailer registration number KBN 607P/ZB 3158, owned by Palm Oil Transporters Ltd; an Isuzu Elf with registration number UBJ 673Y, and an Isuzu Forward with registration number UBM 860S.
The deceased persons have only been identified as Paul, Elisa, a resident of Busaawa-Semuto road in Wakiso district, who were occupants of motor vehicle UBM 860S and Richard, a resident of Namavuudu zone in Gayaza, who was an occupant of motor vehicle UBJ 673Y.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the trailer which was part of a convoy consisting of approximately eight vehicles loaded with bags of Ammonium Nitrate heading to Nakasongola barracks, encountered another parked trailer of the same company near SunAfrica Fuel Station.
The parked trailers blocked the entire lane of the Kampala-Gulu highway. In an attempt to overtake the parked trailers, the last trailer, KBN 607P/ZB 3158, collided with an oncoming charcoal truck registration number UBJ 673Y.
Losing control, the trailer then struck a stationary motor vehicle, UBM 860S, pushing it into a nearby building.
According to ASP TwiineAmazima Sam the Ag PRO for the Savannah Region, both occupants in the truck lost their lives at the scene of the accident, while the driver sustained severe injuries. One of the occupants in the charcoal truck also suffered serious injuries and later succumbed to them at Njonvu Medical Center.
Good Samaritans transported the victim, the driver of the Isuzu Forward, to Njonvu Medical Center for treatment.
