Ten people killed in Taxi Collision Along Kampala-Fort Portal Road
10 people are dead following an accident that occurred in Ngezi Village, Kyenjojo District along the Kampala-Fort Portal Road. The accident was a collision between two Toyota Hiace taxis on New Year’s Day at 8:20 pm.
SP Vincent Twesige the Spokesperson for Police in Rwenzori West told our reporter that the vehicles involved in the collision were Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBR 800S, driven by Edward Ategeka from Kyegegwa, and another Toyota Hiace, registration number UBK 017N, whose driver remains unidentified.
The crash occurred near a stationary Mercedes Benz, registration number UBC 066B/UAU 816J, which had broken down on December 31, 2024, loaded with iron bars, with warning signs being placed at the site.
The deceased have been identified as; Kembabazi Daphin, 29, from Kyarusozi Village, Kyenjojo District, Kamukama Suzan, 23, from Kyanaiti Village, Kyenjojo District, Kabarwani Monica, 46, from Kaihura Village, Kyenjojo District, Musiromu Steven, 30, from Fort Portal, Kasaija Pascal, 22, three unidentified females and two unidentified males.
The 22 victims who sustained injuries were taken to Kyenjojo Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
According to SP Twesige, their team arrived immediately to manage the scene. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Kyenjojo Hospital Mortuary. Preliminary findings indicate the cause of the collision as reckless driving by the driver of taxi UBK 017N, travelling from Kampala.
Twesige says they have launched further inquiries to establish details surrounding the accident.
