Six Killed, 11 Injured in Rakai Road Crash
The territorial police in Rakai are investigating the cause of a fatal accident involving a white Toyota MV UBP 090W, which occurred at Kamuli along the Kibanda-Ntantamuki Road in Rakai District on Saturday, 15 March 2025, at 4:30 pm.
Six people died, while eleven others sustained severe injuries in the accident.
According to SP Kasirye Twaha, the police PRO for the Greater Masaka Region, preliminary investigation reports indicate that the vehicle was transporting mourners back to Kampala after attending a burial at Rugaga Village in Isingiro District.
However, at Kamuli Trading Centre in Rakai District, it overturned, resulting in fatalities, including a nine-month-old baby.
The deceased have been identified as Nayiga Hadija (Nalwanga), Nakabiri Veronika, Kibirige Dan Geoffrey, Onyango, Teddy Ishungisa, and the nine-month-old baby, Nabukenya Sabrina Ssanyu. Their bodies were taken to Rakai Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Those injured include Mutumba Muhammad (the driver), Nabukeera Joyce, Namusisi Veronika, Niwagaba Agnes, Nansaali Annet, Namugenyi Lydia, Namukose Eva, Ndagire Stella (the mother of the baby), Mukasa Deborah, Nsamba Abdul Rahiman, and Namugenyi Justine.
It is further reported that a Good Samaritan provided a taxi that rushed the injured individuals to the hospital. Twaha stated that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
