Rukiga nurse arrested for alleged Rape of 7-months Pregnant mother

A 38-year-old man identified as Darius Orikiriza is in the custody of the police in Rukiga for rape.

Orikiriza who works as a nurse at Mparo Health Centre 4 and lives in the same area, is accused of raping a 20-year-old woman, a resident of Maaya cell Kitanga parish Kashambya sub county Rukiga district, whose name has been withheld by this news site.

According to ASP Elly Maate the PRO Kigezi Region, it is alleged that on August 21, 2023, at around 1:00 PM, the victim, who is 7 months pregnant, went to the health centre for a medical check-up.

She was told to go to the scanning department, which was being run by the suspect.

However, when she got there, Orikiriza asked her to undress and then forced her into a sexual act. She immediately reported him to the in charge of the facility, who then informed the police.

A team of detectives documented the scene, arrested the suspect and took samples from both the victim and the suspect to be analyzed for evidence at the Government Analytical Laboratory, GAL.

The suspect will be checked to determine his HIV status as investigations continue.
