Police in the Elgon region are investigating the circumstances under which Ronald Chateka, a 24-year-old resident of Nafwa village, Buwabwala sub-county in Namisindwa district, was shot dead by police officers on duty.

Julie Namara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Namisindwa, revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday morning when two police officers, identified as Elizabeth Watila and Sam Kirop, stationed at the Buwabwala police post, attempted to arrest Chateka on undisclosed charges.

It is alleged that Chateka resisted arrest and threatened the officers with dangerous weapons.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, Watila has been apprehended and is currently in custody, while Sam Kirop is evading capture, prompting a police search to bring him to justice.
