Police in Rukungiri Hunt for Woman Suspected in Murder of Elderly Resident
The police in Rukungiri are searching for a 30-year-old woman, identified only as Constance, in connection with the alleged murder of an 81-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on May 11, 2025, at around 7:15 a.m. in Nyakabare Cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District.
The deceased has been identified as Kashillingi Kedress, also known as Muserebende, a resident of the aforementioned address.
According to Elly Maate, the Police PRO for the Kigezi Region, it is alleged that on May 2, 2025, the suspect, Constance, was seen in Kebisoni looking for employment. She reportedly secured a job as a housemaid for the deceased.
Maate stated that the deceased had been living with her granddaughter, Natukunda Catherine; Natukunda’s son, Tumusiime Brighton; and the suspect, Constance.
On the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., Natukunda had gone to Kebisoni Town while Tumusiime went to fetch water from a spring, leaving the suspect and the deceased at home. It is reported that the two had been arguing over a mopping rug.
At around 7:20 a.m., when Tumusiime returned, he found Kedress lying in her bedroom with her head covered with a cloth. The maid was nowhere to be found. He immediately alerted Kamuhangire Gilbert, Agaba Peter, and others, who arrived and confirmed that the elderly woman was dead, with fresh injuries to her head.
They informed the area chairman, Mr. Katamba Richard, who reported the matter to Kebisoni Police.
The crime scene was visited, processed, and documented. Witness statements were recorded, and a hoe suspected to have blood stains was recovered as evidence. A postmortem examination was conducted.
The suspect is currently on the run.
