9 Killed in Kapchorwa Road Accident
The police are investigating a tragic accident that claimed nine lives on May 7, 2025, at Chepkwatit-Kaserem village along the Kapchorwa–Bulambuli road.
According to Fredmark Chesang, the Police PRO for the Sipi Region, the crash occurred at around 11:00 a.m. when a white Isuzu Elf truck, registration number UBH 620X, lost control—suspected to be due to brake failure—and overturned. The vehicle was reportedly loaded with heads of cattle, goats, and several businessmen traveling from Kamus Market to Bulambuli.
Seven people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at Bulambuli Hospital. Over three other individuals sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
All the deceased were residents of Butebo District. They have been identified as:
- Mugoda Abdul
- Leu Steven
- Mboizi Ayub
- Mudambo Asuman
- Pajja Patrick
- Kali Muhammad
- Paul Kanyana
- Simon Tom
- Musolini Henry
Among the injured are Kadi James, the truck driver known only as Apollo, and Kabuli Samson—also residents of Butebo—along with others yet to be identified.
Chesang urged drivers to routinely check the mechanical condition of their vehicles before travel and warned against transporting both passengers and livestock in the same vehicle, citing safety concerns.
