Police foil Oil & Gas Public Debate, block Bobi Wine, Besigye

The police in Kampala have foiled what they termed as an illegal assembly organized by an NGO African Initiative on Food Security and Environment.

The NGO had invited leading opposition leaders including former FDC President Col Dr Kiiza Besigye and NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine to discuss issues of Oil & Gas.

According to Patrick Onyango the PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police, the assembly was illegal since they did not clear with the Inspector General of Police as required of all public events due to the terror threat facing the country.

“Security Agencies sat and resolved that all public events in the country must be cleared by the IGP and since he did not clear this one and we still receive intelligence that terrorists are threatening to attack us, we could not allow this assembly to go on

He urged members of the public to take the terror threats as a serious issue and not joke about it.

Dr Besigye had earlier said on his social media that Emerald Hotel, the venue of a meeting to discuss Uganda’s Oil Sector, was barricaded by Police & military!

“The DPC, SP Himumbire, says no one is allowed into the hotel unless we produce a written authorisation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Under no law- just IMPUNITY!” said Dr Besigye.
