Police Advises Men to Accompany Women to Antenatal Visits for Proof of Pregnancy
Police in Mubende have arrested two women in connection with the theft of a three-week-old baby. The suspects have been identified as Nakacwa Jovia, a resident of Namagogo Cell in South Division, Mubende Municipality, and Kababiito Sharon, a resident of Kiruma Trading Centre in Mubende District.
According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, the PRO for Wamala Region, it is alleged that on April 25, 2026, at around 7:00 p.m., at Kitonzi A LC1, Kitonzi Parish, Lubimbiri Sub-county in Mubende District, Ainembabazi Janet left her three-week-old baby boy at home and went to buy domestic items from a nearby trading centre.
Upon her return, the baby was missing. She alerted neighbours, who joined in the search, before the matter was reported to Lubimbiri Police Station.
Kigozi said one of the neighbours reported seeing Sebuliba Yahaya at the victim’s home around the time the child went missing. Police subsequently arrested Sebuliba, who allegedly confessed to stealing the baby and claimed Nakacwa Jovia had hired him.
Meanwhile, Nakacwa’s husband, Ndayizeye Claude, was also apprehended and assisted police in locating his wife. He told investigators that Nakacwa had informed him she was pregnant, and he had been supporting her antenatal visits. He further believed she had given birth to a baby boy.
At about 5:30 a.m. on Monday, in an intelligence-led operation, police arrested Nakacwa at a home in Kiruma Trading Centre belonging to Kababiito Sharon, where she had been hiding. The baby was recovered in good health, and Kababiito was also arrested.
Kigozi said the case file is being processed and will soon be forwarded to the Mubende Resident State Attorney for sanctioning of charges against the suspects.
The baby has since been reunited with his mother.
Kigozi also urged men to accompany their partners to antenatal visits to help detect possible deception regarding pregnancies.
