Parents urged to prepare children ahead of re-opening of academic institutions

Parents have been reminded to prepare their children for re-opening of academic institutions which will begin on 1st March 2021 and is meant to happen in what the President termed as a staggered manner.

The process which begins in a week’s time will see semi candidate classes and institutions of higher learning returning to school on March 1st, followed by other classes as recently communicated by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Hon Judith Nabakooba the Minister for ICT and National Guidance says the development follows guidance from His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni and Ministry of Education.

“Today’s communication is a simple reminder to all parents and schools about their expected obligations. It has been almost of a year with the children at home. Parents should be using this time to check for all the expected school requirements” Nabakooba said, during the weekly government presser on Sunday.

She noted that some children might have already out grown their school uniforms, shoes and other essentials and therefore called upon parents to prepare well so that the children start school on time.

President Yoweri Museveni closed all institutions of learning on March 18th 2020, following the COVID-19 pandemic. Children have since been learning online, with fear that re-opening schools could fuel and increase in infections.

The President recently announced that the institutions should re-open but in a staggered manner, in order to allow for social distance and other SOPs to be followed.

Last week, Ministry of Health informed cabinet that Uganda had registered a decrease in new cases for the months of January and February, but that there are a few areas that still need improvement.

These include some taxis and buses on the upcountry routes which are carrying more than the agreed upon numbers.
