One arrested over murder of 10-year-old girl

Police in Kassanda is actively investigating a murder and aggravated defilement of Tumukunde Hope a 10-year-old daughter to Bakunda Samuel and Mbabazi Scovia residents of Kamuli LCI Mayirikiti parish Kalwana sub-county in Kassanda district.

The incident occurred on 19/03/2022 in Mayirikiti Parish, Kalwana sub-county, Kassanda district.

Preliminary findings indicate that on 19/03/2022 at about 800am the deceased was sent together with her 3-year-old brother to fetch water at the well but they didn’t return back home back.

Residents mounted a search in the evening at about 400pm in the farm where the well was located and found the children, but Hope was already dead, while the brother was alive.

Asp Racheal Kawala the PRO Wamala says police task teams responded to the scene upon receiving the information.

Vaginal swabs have been picked from the deceased to be submitted to forensics for analysis since the deceased was also defiled.

Police also picked up one suspect to help with investigations.

The deceased’s body has been conveyed to Kassanda health centre iv pending a postmortem.
