Kampala Security Operation Nets 122 Suspects in Crime Hotspots

Eighty-three suspects have been arrested from crime hotspots along the Northern Bypass during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted on March 26, 2025, in Kampala District, targeting areas known for harbouring criminals.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the PRO of Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation, which involved police, UPDF, and intelligence, took place in Wabiku, Balintuma Zone Kiwatule, and Nakawa.

The authorities also impounded ten motorcycles from areas recognized for criminal activity.

The suspects have been detained at Kira Road Police Station pending prosecution.

In a separate operation on the same day, starting at 10:00 p.m., thirty-nine suspects were arrested during a joint forces operation targeting Kungu and Kireka Kamuli Road.

Onyango stated that the operation aimed to apprehend suspects involved in criminal activities, such as robbery and assault, in Kira and neighboring areas.

The suspects are held at Kira Division Police. Exhibits including opium, a panga, and a hammer were found in a temporary timber structure belonging to a suspect identified as Yanga.

One suspect, named Gonzaga Peter, injured his ankle while attempting to jump from a vehicle.
