Kampala Metropolitan South Police Conduct Joint Operation, Arrest Over 500 Suspects
Police in the Kampala Metropolitan South Region have conducted a joint targeted operation in the Nateete policing area and the surrounding areas of Nsangi, Katwe, and Kajjansi.
The operation involved officers from the Nateete, Katwe, and Kajjansi policing divisions and was aimed at addressing crime in identified hotspots across the region.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the operation was launched following an increase in reported cases of robbery, motorcycle theft, mobile phone theft, burglary, and related offences.
More than 500 suspects were arrested during the exercise.
Police also recovered several exhibits, including suspected opium, suspected miraa, pangas, and other items believed to be connected to criminal activities.
The suspects have been charged with offences including possession of narcotic drugs, public nuisance, and possession of offensive weapons in public without lawful authority.
All the suspects remain in police custody pending screening and subsequent court proceedings.
