Kabale Police investigate murder of 22-year-old UBL worker

The police in Kabale are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Andrew Byamukama, a 22-year-old worker at Bell depot in Kigongi, Central Division, Kabale Municipality. Byamukama, a resident of Kanyankwanzi cell, Nyakagyera Parish, Kyanamira Sub-County, Kabale District.

According to ASP Maate Elly, the Public Relations Officer for Kigezi, the incident took place on the morning of October 26, 2023, at 08:00 hours in Kanyinaburiba village, Kyanamira Parish, Kabale District. Arinaitwe Happy, the area chairperson, and other concerned citizens discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified adult male floating in the waters of River Kiruruma.

They reported this matter to Kabale Police Station. In response, a specialized team composed of homicide detectives, fire officers, and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), led by D/CID/O, D/IP Magara Richard, was dispatched to the scene. Their task was to examine the scene, collect evidence, and document the findings.

Maate says the team carefully retrieved the body from the water and subsequently transferred it to the mortuary to conduct a thorough postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, as the body awaited postmortem analysis, Federensi Mugisha and others, who had reported the disappearance of their son, Byamukama Andrew, to Kyanamira Police Station on October 24, 2023, went to the mortuary to check on the status of their missing loved one. To their heart-wrenching discovery, they identified the deceased as their son, Byamukama Andrew.

The postmortem, conducted, revealed the cause of death to be strangulation, confirming this to be a case of murder. With this knowledge, the authorities promptly released the body to the family to allow them to arrange a decent burial for their lost one.

The investigation remains active, with ongoing efforts to identify and arrest the suspects responsible for this heinous crime.
