Judiciary driver remanded to Luzira Prison for possession of contraband goods
A Judiciary driver identified as Barnabas Juju, has appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala which remanded him to Luzira prison on charges of possession of contraband goods.
Juju, a resident of Tororo Police Barracks and employed by Tororo High Court, appeared before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe at the Anti-Corruption Court.
He is facing two charges under the East African Community Customs Management Act of 2004. Court heard that on June 13th, 2023, in Kyambogo, Kampala district, Juju was apprehended with uncategorized goods, including 38 bags of Baraf Rice, 435 bags of Pk and Juicy fruit chewing gum, and 149 packets of Big-G.
Some of these items were determined to be of Kenyan origin and carried a duty value of Shillings 4.4 million.
The Prosecutors told court that the suspect was transporting these goods in a government motor vehicle Reg No UG 0793 J.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been sent to Luzira until Thursday, June 22, when he is scheduled to return for a bail application.
