Horror as UPDF Accidentally Shoots himself to death

A Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF soldier has accidentally shot himself dead.

The soldier identified as Lance Corporal Simon Peter Bongomin, 32 was attached to Masindi artillery Division military police training wing.

According to Captain Steven Tumwesige, the Masindi UPDF artillery division spokesperson, Bongomin shot himself on Thursday inside the deceased’s house within the Masindi UPDF Artillery barracks.

Capt. Tumwesige added that Bongomin was picking a loaded and cocked gun at his house for duty when a bullet came out and hit him in the neck killing him instantly. 

It is believed that the soldier could have missed the safety precaution on the gun when he returned from duty the previous night.

The deceased’s body was conveyed to Masindi Hospital Mortuary and arrangements are underway to transfer it to his ancestral home in Kitgum district for burial.
