Horror as miners are buried alive in Namayingo

Two miners have been buried alive in Sango-Kifuyo mining site located in Buyinjja sub county in Namayingo district on Monday morning.

 Police in the area is investigating circumstances under which Faizal Ntabi aged 26 years and 30 year old Ayub Musobya, both renown miners from Kifuyo village were buried under rubble when a chunk of earth got detached from an abandoned open mining site within the area.

According to Joseph Wandera a miner within the area, such accidents occur due to several uncovered mining pits within the area, resulting from interference by politicians who protect their close associates probed of failing to refill abandoned mines.

He noted that most fatal accidents within the mines are never reported for fear of punishment from those who can influence the law enforcement agencies.

Apollo Tayebwa, the Namayingo district police commander confirmed the incident, adding that efforts to retrieve the bodies of the deceased are under way.

He warned miners against exploitation of already abandoned mining sites, adding that, such activities risk their lives.
