Filmmaker Daphne Ampire Karema Unveils Her 15-Episode Movie “Borders”

Daphne Ampire Karema, a distinguished figure with a decade of experience in the film industry, mesmerized audiences with the premiere of her latest creation, “Borders,” a captivating 15-episode mini-TV series. The event took place at Motiv–Bugolobi, marking a momentous occasion in the world of African storytelling.

“Borders” intricately explores the lives of an African Jewel Dance Troop, portraying their daily struggles as both artists and individuals. The series weaves a linguistic tapestry, skillfully blending English, Luganda, and Swahili, providing viewers with a rich cultural experience.

Acknowledging the challenges of the demanding film industry, Daphne expressed gratitude for the support received, particularly from contributors like UCC. She highlighted their significant role in enhancing the project’s quality.

In a message directed at the State Minister for Trade, present at the premiere, Daphne urged the establishment of credibility for Uganda as the Pearl of Africa. Emphasizing the potential of exporting movies globally, she urged the government to align narratives with international audiences.

“Just as we export coffee, we have the opportunity to export our movies and share our ideals with the rest of the world,” remarked Daphne Ampire Karema.

State Minister of Trade, Ms. Ntabazi Harriet, encouraged filmmakers to venture beyond their comfort zones, citing the educational and societal impact of the film industry. Expressing readiness to support filmmakers through cooperatives, she highlighted the government’s commitment to providing financial assistance and other forms of support.

Ms. Ntabazi Harriet, also revealing her past as a filmmaker, emphasized the importance of being seen and heard in the industry. She underscored the transformative power of movies in shaping societal perceptions and urged creatives to make their voices heard.

The premiere of “Borders” not only showcased Daphne Ampire Karema’s filmmaking prowess but also ignited conversations about the potential of Ugandan cinema on the global stage.
