Ragga Dee Begs Journalists To Always Respect Their Craft Ahead Of His 37-Years Concert
As preparations for Daniel Kazibwe, popularly known as Ragga Dee, and his much-anticipated show “Ragga Dee @37” gain momentum, industry creatives are coming forward to celebrate his immense contribution to Uganda’s music scene.
Scheduled for January 25 at Serena Hotel, the event promises an unforgettable night of nostalgia, featuring decades of iconic hits that have shaped Ugandan music, including “Mbawe,” “Parliament,” “Oyagala Cash,” “Empisa,” and “Owakaze’ke.”
During a media briefing ahead of the show, renowned actor Sam Bagenda from The Ebonies expressed admiration for Ragga Dee’s talent and resilience. Bagenda highlighted their long-standing friendship and emphasized the importance of discipline in achieving longevity in the industry.
“I encourage the youth to learn from us. It’s not just about talent but also discipline, which is vital for success. Many fail because of indiscipline. Let’s nurture discipline in the industry,” Bagenda said.
Veteran singer Halima Namakula reminisced about her first encounter with Ragga Dee in 2000 at Serena Hotel (then Nile Hotel), where she invited him to perform at her show. She humorously recalled thinking he had come to steal her spotlight.
“He has a warm heart and wishes the best for others. Ragga Dee was the one who introduced me to selling CDs at concerts, which helped me earn extra income. I’m thrilled to witness this milestone and invite all old-school music lovers to join us for a memorable evening,” Namakula said.
Peter Kakumba from Pepsi Uganda lauded Ragga Dee’s efforts in nurturing young talent, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in sustaining the creative industry.
Ragga Dee, reflecting on his 37-year musical journey that began in 1988, expressed gratitude to his supporters, including corporate partners like Pepsi and MTN.
“Pepsi has supported me since the beginning, and I’ve been loyal to MTN, my first brand partnership. I thank God for this journey—it hasn’t been easy, but perseverance has kept me going,” he said.
He shared his emotional connection to Serena Hotel, revealing it hosted his wedding—the first ever held at the venue. Ragga Dee also promised fans an exciting surprise act, teasing the return of an artist who has been away for rehabilitation and other seasoned performers who will rekindle memories with fans.
“We’ve been rehearsing for two months to ensure an unforgettable show. Expect surprises and incredible performances from artists you’ve missed over the years,” he assured.
