Files destroyed as unknown thugs break into Mengo Chief Magistrates Court
Police are searching for unknown thugs who broke into the Mengo Chief Magistrates Court in Kampala and stole an unspecified number of court documents on Tuesday night.
The thugs gained access to the court through the back and entered the cashier’s office before breaking into the Small Claims Procedure office.
Computers that were being used in both the offices were destroyed by the thugs while the main system server was taken. At the time of the robbery, there were only two police officers attached to Counter Terrorism on guard.
According to Jamson Karemani the Judiciary Public Relations Officer, the court has been sealed off as the Police conduct investigations. He adds that they are yet to establish the documents that were stolen.
The robbery brought business at the court to a standstill. The prison warders officers who had brought suspects to the court were left stranded.
