Dark cloud covers Koboko as relatives receive bodies of Drivers killed by gunmen in South Sudan

It was a sombre day in Koboko on Wednesday, as relatives and friends received bodies of 11 businessmen who were slain in South Sudan.

Four Ugandan drivers; Stephen Amati, Dada Abugo, Ali Sonny and Sadam Noah were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Yei-Juba highway while heading to Juba for business.
According to Sazir Mayanja the Koboko Resident District Commissioner, the horrific incident occurred on Sunday evening between Ganji (Lanya County), 65kms to Juba and Kullipa, about 58kms to Juba on Yei-Juba road in South Sudan, when the men landed in an ambush.

The Koboko MP elect Dr. Charles Ayume urged the people to remain calm and desist from any xenophobic behavior, requesting regional bodies like EAC and IGAD to take interest into the case.

“A sombre day in Koboko as relatives & friends received bodies of 11 businessmen who were slain in South Sudan. I urge my people to remain calm & desist from any xenophobic behavior. Regional bodies like EAC & IGAD should fast track efforts to pacify S-Sudan, a key trade partner” Dr. Charles Ayume said.

Several Ugandans have lost their lives at the hands of gunmen in South Sudan. During the incident on Sunday, 13 passengers were also abducted and later rescued by the government of South Sudan.
