Bobi Wine Promises Jobs, Roads, and Free Education in Butaleja Campaign Rally
Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, alias Bobi Wine, on Tuesday afternoon campaigned in Butaleja District, promising sweeping reforms in infrastructure, education, and employment if elected president in the forthcoming general elections.
Arriving in the district at around 3:45 p.m. via the Budaka–Naboa road, Bobi Wine made a brief stopover at Nabiganda Trading Centre in Nabiganda Town Council, where he was welcomed by supporters led by Hon. Kiiza Sausiya Sauya, the NUP Chairperson for Butaleja District. Addressing enthusiastic crowds, Bobi Wine appealed for votes and pledged to improve road infrastructure within five years.
He further promised to create 100 million jobs for the youth and facilitate trade by providing trailers to transport rice from Butaleja to regional markets in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo as a strategy to fight poverty.
After spending about 30 minutes engaging with residents in Nabiganda, the NUP flag bearer proceeded through the Mbale–Busolwe road to Leresi Trading Centre in Butaleja Town Council, where he officially opened a new NUP office.
At the main rally held at Butaleja Booma Grounds, Bobi Wine delivered a wide-ranging address focused on service delivery, anti-corruption, and governance. He decried what he described as “40 years without tarmac roads” in Butaleja and pledged to prioritise infrastructure development if elected.
“I want you to look at me not as Bobi Wine, but as the face of a new Uganda, a Uganda that will be ruled without guns,” he told supporters.
The presidential hopeful also promised to: Extend electricity and clean water to all homes at affordable rates, ensure better pay and timely salaries for teachers, establish an industrial park in Butaleja to spur job creation, and provide free education and school meals for children, construct health centres every three kilometres and recruit more health workers, and end the trial of civilians in military courts and release political prisoners, including Dr. Kizza Besigye and Eddie Mutwe, whom he said were detained for political reasons.
Bobi Wine concluded his rally at around 6:05 p.m., thanking the people of Butaleja for their support and urging them to vote for change in the upcoming elections.
