At least 21 deaths recorded on 1st January 2021 across the country

21 lives were lost by end of day on 1st January 2021, police has said. The cases arose out of 24 incidents.

Fred Enanga the Police spokesperson says 4 cases were a result of assault in Hoima, Sheema, Fortportal and Otuke districts. Police also received 4 cases of drowning in Buwama, Kayabwe and in L. Albert.

Police received three incidents of murder by shooting 2 victims in Apac district and another one in Bweyale Kilyandongo district. 3 cases of sudden death were reported in Adjumani, Kikajo Makindye and Soroti. There were also deaths by mob action including one in Mubarack Makindye and another in Butalejja.

There was also death arising out of a stray teargas canister in Mbale district discharged by a police officer during crowd dispersal. A case of suicide was also reported in Agago district, one case of strangulation in Terego district, a suspected murder case in Mitooma district and one case of hacking in Buwenge.

The Albertine Region (Hoima) registered the highest number of crimes followed by Greater Bushenyi, Katonga in Mpigi, Kampala Metropolitan South Katwe, Rwenzori West, Bukedea, Elgon and East Kyoga.
