Armed robbers kill one, injure six in Fuel station attack
The police in Lugazi are hunting for a gang of armed robbers who attacked Magnum petroleum Kitega cell, Lugazi municipality Buikwe District killing one person and injuring 6 others.
According to Asp Butoto Hellen the PRO Ssezibwa Region, the incident happened on 23/01/2023 at around 0300/c.
The deceased has been identified as, Abiriga Mohammed 55 years, a security guard and resident of Namengo ward, Lugazi municipality in Buikwe District.
The injured persons are Umar Masikini a resident of Namengo Kasabya, Lugazi municipality, Ecuru Solomon 27 years a pump attendant and resident of Kitega cell, Lugazi municipality, Kaganda Innocent 53 years, a security guard at the nearby shop and resident of Kitega cell, Lugazi municipality and Katungano David whose full details were not captured.
The others are Hakim Ziwa 33 years, a businessman and resident of Kitega cell, Lugazi municipality and Mutebi Mohammed 28 and resident of Kitega cell, Lugazi municipality all in Buikwe District.
Butoto says that the thugs attacked Magnum petroleum at about 0300/c on 23/01/2023 armed with pangas and sticks. They demanded money from pump attendants and took off with an unspecified amount of cash.
However, the workers made an alarm which attracted neighbours and they responded only to be attacked and cut by the thugs too.
Ewat George a pump attendant who escaped informed the owner who responded to the scene and rushed the victims to Kawolo hospital where Abiriga Muhammad was pronounced dead on arrival. The case was reported to the Lugazi police station.
“We have recorded all relevant statement recorded and documented the scene of the crime. No arrest has been made yet but inquiries are at hand and the hunt for the robbers is ongoing,” says Butoto.
