Actionaid, Global Platform Uganda in Women’s Day Online campaign

Actionaid Uganda in collaboration with global platform Uganda are conducting an online campaign in to celebrate the International Women’s Day 2021.

The world is celebrating the 8th March 2021 Day under the theme; “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world,” 

The campaign on social media is meant to highlight critical issues government needs to do, challenges women go through in the community and the Gender Based Violence shelters managed by Actionaid Uganda across the country.

The #UGChooseToChallenge campaignhas encouraged women on social media to voice out the things they want to see being changed especially by people in higher offices and society at large.

Some chose to challenge Gender Based Violence, Gender inequality, social constructions that have limited women’s potential, others have challenged all stereo types among others.

Actionaid Uganda has shelters in the areas of Bwaise (Kampala), Gulu, Amuru, Lira, Nebbi, Hween, Katakwi, Mubende and Kumi districts. in these centres, they offer services including; Counselling, Psychosocial support, free legal representation, first aid and medical services to victims of Gender Based Violence.

According to Nivatiti Nandujja the person in charge of all shelters across the country, this is done with the support of the referral Pathway to support vulnerable women and girls.

“We work with the referral pathway to support vulnerable women and girls. We also work with Uganda police, Local Council leaders, Magistrates , Judges cultural and religious leaders to deliver justice to vulnerable women and girls” Nandujja says.

She added that they also work with women and girls as champions of change as well as with men and boys to promote masculinity.

Sarah K. Biryomumaisho is a seasoned multimedia Award Winning journalist with 11 years of experience in broadcast and writing. She is recognized for her expertise in the field and holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Makerere Business Institute, which has equipped her with a strong foundation in business principles. Her most recent engagements include Galaxy FM 100.2 and Radio 4. Additionally, she has served as a writer for Andariya Magazine, further demonstrating her ability to excel in different mediums. Sarah's expertise extends beyond journalism. She has worked as a Digital Communications consultant for the revitalized Uganda Airlines, leveraging her skills to effectively communicate the airline's message in the digital sphere. Her passion for digital media and technology makes her a valuable asset in the evolving landscape of communication. In her entrepreneurial pursuits, Sarah is the proud owner of TheUgPost, a renowned media organization with a strong presence in Uganda and a global reach. Through this platform, she continues to make a significant impact by providing reliable and engaging content to a wide audience.
