Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Defilement and Murder of Infant in Kyankwanzi
The police in Kyankwanzi have arrested two suspects in connection with the defilement and murder of a 1.8-month-old baby girl.
The deceased has been identified as Nambuya Majorine, the daughter of Katende Geofrey and Nakafeero Tolofisa, both residents of Kiryanongo Village, Kiryanongo Subcounty, Kyankwanzi District. The incident occurred in Kiryanongo Village on 12/09/2024 at about 1000 hours.
SP Kawala Racheal, the PRO Wamala, identified the suspects as Nabakoza Kasifa, the deceased child’s stepmother, and her casual worker, only identified as Batala.
Preliminary findings indicate that on 12/09/2024, the parents of the deceased had gone to the garden, leaving the child at home with her 8-year-old brother. However, it is alleged that at about 0900 hours, the deceased left home to play with the children of her stepmother, who lives in the neighborhood.
Shortly afterward, Nabakoza sent the child’s 8-year-old brother and her children to pick guavas, while the deceased remained at home with her and Batala. Upon their return, the children asked for the whereabouts of their sister but were told by Nabakoza that she had disappeared. Immediately, the children began a search for Nambuya and, unfortunately, found her body lying in a newly dug open pit latrine just behind her parents’ house.
The police were informed about the incident and rushed to the scene. According to SP Kawala, they recorded all relevant statements and examined the deceased’s body, determining that the cause of death was strangulation following defilement.
The suspects, Nabakoza Kasifa and Batala, are currently being held at Kyankwanzi Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
