Lawyer Balondemu remanded again until November 22nd
The State house Anti Corruption Unit together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate have re-arraigned David Balondemu, the Kampala District Land Board Chairperson and Ibona Joseph before Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretence and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
The accused and others still at large while operating under a law firm M/S Bloom Advocates, allegedly obtained over UGX 2.2B from an American company KG Unlimited LLC, by falsely pretending that they were going to award it a contract of supplying agricultural drone sprayers and fertilizers from Ministry of Agriculture where as not.
Balondemu was first arrested in October for allegedly defrauding a Korean investor of USD300,000.
It is alleged that between August and November 2021, a Korean investor, Hyun Uk Kim was defrauded over USD300,000 (Three hundred thousand dollars) in a 53kg gold scam in Kampala.
The investor was introduced to the deal by Mugisha James Jeff who knew the alleged gold seller who is still at large. During all interactions, Maviri Godfrey was always in the company of the gold ‘seller’.
On November 11th 2023, Balondemu, along with his co-accused Geoffrey Mkwe was released on bail by City Hall court grade one magistrate, Rehema Nassozi. They are jointly accused with businessmen James Jeff Mugisha and Godfrey Mabirizi.
He was re-arrested two days ago.
The duo has been remanded until 22/11/2023.
