Police hunt for bar owner over murder of UPDF officer

The territorial police in Bukedi are investigating a case of murder by assault that occurred at Bukoli village, Nanzara parish, Kameruka sub-county in Budaka district.

The victim has been identified as Mbayo Martin, a UPDF officer. Trouble started on 18/07/2023 at 1700hrs, when the deceased, accompanied by his friend only known as Nolya, visited a bar owned by Tabiruka Robert at Nabugala Trading Center in Kameruka subcounty.

According to SP Alaso Immaculate Emily, the PRO Bukedi North Region, a dispute broke out between the deceased and Tabiruka, the bar owner, leading to a violent altercation. Tragically, the deceased suffered severe head injuries during the confrontation. He was rushed to Mbale referral hospital for urgent medical attention.

On 19/07/2023 at 0345 hrs, the deceased’s father reported the case of assault to the police.

However, despite efforts to stabilize him, his condition deteriorated, forcing his referral to Mulago Hospital. Tragically, he passed away en route to Kampala. Currently, the body of the deceased is being held at Bugema Army Barracks in Mbale.

Alaso says Tabiruka, the bar owner, is on the run, and authorities are hunting for him to bring him to justice for his alleged involvement in the incident.
