Update; Accident claims life of Businessman Aponye in Ntungamo

Ntungamo District’s traffic police are investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Thursday evening, at 9:00 PM causing the untimely death of prominent businessman Apollo Nyegamehe, alias Aponye.

The accident occurred in Itojo, along the Ntungamo-Mbarara Road, involving two motor vehicles registration numbers UBF 300Z (a Land Cruiser) and UAZ 767D (a FUSO truck).

According to SP Kasasira Samson, the Public Relations Officer of RWIZI, preliminary investigations indicate that Aponye’s Land Cruiser was travelling towards Kabale when it collided with a stationary truck that had encountered a mechanical issue and was parked by the roadside.

Aponye lost his life in the accident. His body has been transferred to Kampala for postmortem. While the injured persons, identified as Karamuzi Joshua a passenger and Buyinza Moses the driver of UBF 300Z Land Cruiser were transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, as they sustained various injuries.

The cause of the accident was due to overspeeding by the driver of the motor vehicle UBF 300Z Land Cruiser.

Kasasira says motor vehicle UBF 300Z LAND CRUISER has been towed to the Police yard and the UAZ 767D FUSO truck is pending towing due to the load it’s carrying.
