Four suspects in custody for murder of Ronnie Mukisa

The Joint Security Task Team, comprising the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), and Crime Intelligence, has made significant advances in the investigation of the murder by shooting of Mukisa Ronnie, a 43-year-old clerk at IBC Advocates.

Four suspects are in custody, all of whom are strongly linked to the murder.

The suspects include Karedou Robert Irama, his wife Nalwoga Brenda Cathy, Corporal Anyuse Max Geoffrey (a UPDF deserter and self-appointed bodyguard to Karedou), and Superintendent of Police (SP) Irama Vincent, an officer attached to KMP North. Each suspect is being held at separate locations.

SCP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson says that the victim and two of the suspects, Karedou Robert and his wife Nalwoga Brenda, were acquainted but became involved in a business dispute.

They allege that the victim swindled over USD 1 million from them. To carry out their sinister plan, they recruited SP Irama Vincent, a police officer, and hired Corporal Anyuse Max as the hitman.

On May 30, 2023, Corporal Anyuse used a gun he had deserted with from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to trail the victim in his dark blue Subaru Legacy with registration number UBJ 006K.

When the victim approached his home in Kitoko-Birongo, Ndejje Division, Corporal Anyuse fired four bullets at close range, killing him instantly. He made his escape on a waiting motorcycle and promptly informed Nalwoga Brenda of their successful mission.

In the last 11 days, a task team composed of investigators and intelligence agents connected the dots between the four suspects. The initial arrests took place at the homes of Karedou, Nalwoga, and Corporal Anyuse in Kasana LC I, Kulambiro. During the search, two AK-47 magazines, 52 rounds of ammunition, and military uniforms were recovered.

Initially, Corporal Anyuse admitted to carrying out the shooting with a gun provided by SP Irama. However, he later recanted his statement and guided the task team to the weapon he had abandoned from the DRC. It was found hidden behind the boys’ quarters in the rented apartments in Kitiko-Birongo, wrapped in a polythene bag.

He confirmed that SP Irama Vincent orchestrated the murder plot. The task team subsequently arrested SP Irama at Kawempe Police Station, where a search yielded an official pistol and an AK-47 rifle with 30 bullets, two of which had been recently replaced.

All recovered firearms and bullets will undergo forensic examination by ballistics experts. Enanga says that another suspected murder weapon, discovered on June 12, 2023, will also be analyzed by the ballistics expert.

“As the Joint Security Agencies, we do strongly condemn in the strongest terms, the actions of the two officers, who instead of protecting the lives of Ugandans, wilfully took the desire to take another humans life, for money. There is no place for such kind of gross indiscipline, barbaric and aggressive behavior in the forces. The actions of the officers are regrettable and not representative of the two disciplined forces, of the Police and UPDF,” said Enanga.

He assured the deceased’s family and the public that investigators are working tirelessly to arrest the remaining culprits, while the four currently in custody will face charges of murder and related conspiracies.
