60-Year-Old Man Murdered in Rukungiri, Suspects on the Run

Police in Rukungiri are on the hunt for suspects who murdered a 60-year-old man identified as Joseph Bashobeirwe, a resident of Kakatenga cell Kihanga Parish Buhunga s/county in Rukungiri district.

According to ASP Maate Elly, the PRO Kigezi, on April 16, 2023, at around 10:00hrs, the deceased left his home to the garden up the hill in Kakatenga village. Later that afternoon, Maurice Kyomugisha, who was at home located opposite the hill, heard Bashobeirwe screaming for help, claiming that he was being murdered. Kyomugisha responded by making an alarm for the rescue of the deceased.

Unfortunately, when she arrived at the scene, Bashobeirwe was already dead, and the assailant had fled. Kyomugisha immediately informed the relatives and local leaders, including Giso Stella Kamusiime, who reported the incident to Buhunga police station.

Police officers visited the crime scene and documented it, recovering a panga, which was taken as an exhibit. The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination.

However, the suspects remain at large. Police have called on anyone who may have information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects to come forward and help with the investigation.
