18-year-old man mistaken for Karimojong Rustler shot dead by UPDF Soldier

A UPDF Soldier from Abim 80th Battalion has shot and killed a man mistaking him to be one of the Karimojong Cattle rustlers.

The incident happened on 02/03/2023 at around 1230hrs in Odom central, Odom parish in Adilang sub-county in Agago district when the deceased and 3 other people went hunting for wild animals in the bush towards the border of Abim and Agago Districts but unfortunately, they landed into an ambush laid by the UPDF soldiers.

The soldiers were on an operation against the errant Karimojong Cattle rustlers and mistook the hunters to be the same.

The deceased has been identified as Ogia Martine 18 years old, who had climbed an Anthill. He was allegedly shot in the neck.

ASP Ongom David Mudong the PRO Aswa River says that the Police visited the scene, documented it and recorded statements from relevant witnesses for further investigations.

The body was retrieved pending postmortem;

Ongom adds that community policing was conducted to caution people against roaming in operations zones.
