UPDF Soldier Shoots Man to Death Over a Woman
The territorial police in Apac District have arrested RA 255575 Pt Amali Jacob, a 26-year-old UPDF officer attached to the 101 Battalion in Lacekocot Detach, Pader District, for allegedly shooting one person to death.
The deceased has been identified as Okullo Haggai, a 25-year-old resident of Atek Village, Adeni Parish, Chegere Sub-County in Apac District.
According to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the PRO for North Kyoga, it is alleged that the suspect and the victim fought on January 7, 2025, over a woman identified as Auma Winnie, at Acan Pe Nino Bar in Kidilani Trading Centre.
Amali reportedly left his workplace and traveled to his home in Kwoyo ‘A’ Village before heading to the bar. Following the altercation, he left the bar and returned around 4:00 a.m. armed with a gun, which he allegedly used to shoot Haggai to death.
The police were informed, and a case of murder by shooting was registered at Apac Central Police Station (CPS). Scene of Crime Officers, along with the District CID and a canine team, visited the crime scene, documented evidence, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
SP Okema confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently detained at Apac CPS. However, the gun used in the crime has not yet been recovered, as the suspect is not cooperating with the police to disclose its location.
Police have also arrested Amali’s friend, identified only as Olila, who was with him at the bar, as well as Auma Winnie, to assist with the investigations.
The deceased’s body has been handed over to Apac Main Hospital’s mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
