Two Construction Workers Killed in Gate Collapse in Kyengera

The police in the Kampala Metropolitan area are investigating the deaths of two people that occurred at the residence of Mr. Mubiru Julius, located at Katale Cell, Bunamwaya Parish, in Kyengera Town Council.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, stated that the incident took place yesterday, July 25, 2024, at 8 PM, when an entrance gate collapsed, tragically killing two construction workers on site.

The victims, identified as Mugerwa Joseph (22), a resident of Nyanama, and Semakula David (22), were working on the entrance gate when the support pillars are suspected to have failed, causing a heavy slab to fall on them.

Owoyesigyire mentioned that despite the immediate efforts of community members who pulled them out, the two men were pronounced dead at the scene. Police from Ngobe, Kajjansi, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue services arrived promptly to assess the situation and determine the cause of the gate’s collapse.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Our team, with the assistance of experts, is conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to this tragic event. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses,” said Owoyesigyire.
