Three Killed, Two Injured in Hoima Road Accident as Driver Flees Scene

Three people were killed and two others severely injured in an accident that occurred on Friday morning at Katerega along the Hoima-Kampala Road in Hoima District.

The accident, which happened at 9:00 a.m., involved a motor vehicle, UBP 288K Toyota Harrier, an unidentified motorcycle, and five pedestrians. The car, traveling from Hoima to Kampala, lost control while dodging a motorcycle that abruptly entered the road and rammed into pedestrians on their lane.

SP Julius Allan Hakiza, the PRO of Albertine, said that three people died on the spot, while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. The bodies were taken to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem and identification.

Unfortunately, according to Hakiza, the driver and occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. He attributed the accident to reckless riding by the motorcyclist, who entered the road abruptly, and cautioned all cyclists to respect other road users.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the driver of the motor vehicle to come forward and assist in the investigation.
