Nakaseke: Soldier Shoots Wife over Food, Attempts Suicide
Police in Nakaseke district are investigating a tragic case of murder and attempted suicide that occurred on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Kaweweta Basic Military Training School.
The incident occurred around 3:00 PM but was reported later in the evening at Kyinyogoga Police Station.
The victim has been identified as Kebirungi Kella Adyeri, while the suspect, Lance Corporal Sserunkuma Denis, is a soldier stationed at Kaweweta Army Training School.
According to ASP Twiinemazima Sam, the PRO for the Savannah Region, initial investigations indicate that the two were a couple living together in the army barracks. However, they had been arguing inside their home over claims that Adyeri had refused to prepare food since Monday.
Witnesses say that at around 3:00 PM, Adyeri ran out of their grass-thatched house, with Sserunkuma chasing her while armed with an SMG rifle. He then shot her in the head, killing her instantly. Immediately after, he turned the gun on himself, firing a shot into his chin—but he survived.
Police were alerted and responded to the scene, documenting evidence and gathering witness statements. Sserunkuma was rushed to Kaweweta Military Health Center IV for treatment, while Adyeri’s body was taken to Bombo Military Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The army has taken charge of the exhibits as investigations continue.
