Teenager Murdered at Busia Community Party, Two Arrested

Police in Busia District are investigating a case of murder that occurred on the evening of Thursday, 3rd July 2025, during a community party organized by Ministers Mulimba John (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs) and Balaam Barugahara (the state minister for gender, labour, and social development in charge of children and youth affairs).

The deceased has been identified as Polly Bwire, a 19-year-old resident of Jegobero Village, Namongodi Town Council.

According to Moses Mugwe, the Public Relations Officer for Bukedi South Region Police, the ministers had organized a party at the Namongodi Primary School playground in Bulumbi Sub-county while on a supervision and monitoring tour of government programs in the area.

During the celebrations, a violent scuffle broke out on the dance floor, resulting in several injuries. Bwire sustained a deep cut to the neck from a sharp object.

Police, led by AIP Otim Stephen, the Officer in Charge of Operations, responded swiftly to the scene and rushed Bwire to Busia Health Centre IV. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

While the identity of the attacker remains unclear, police have arrested two suspects to assist with investigations. They are:

• Ajambo Patricia, 18, a resident of Namongodi Town Council
• Abedi Latif, 24, a taxi conductor from Namaubi A Village, Dabani Sub-county

Preliminary findings suggest that Bwire may have confronted a man found standing with a girl believed to be his girlfriend. The unidentified man allegedly pulled out a sharp object and attacked Bwire before fleeing the scene.

Two other individuals were also injured in the altercation. One has been identified as Ojambo Collins, a Senior One student at Namungodi Seed Secondary School. The second victim remains unidentified at the time of this report.

Police investigations are ongoing.
