President Museveni to Award 61 Medals During Victory Day Celebrations

The government has announced preparations for the 39th NRM/NRA Victory Day Anniversary Celebrations, scheduled for January 26, 2025, are underway.

According to a statement from Babirye Milly Babalanda, the Minister for the Presidency, and presented by the Minister of State for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Kyofatogabye Kabuye this year’s celebrations will take place in Mubende District at the National Teachers College Grounds, Mubende Town Council.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is “39 Years of NRM/A: Salutations to Those Who Re-sanctified Our Homeland.” The Chief Guest will be H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, who will accompany many other invited dignitaries.

During a press conference at the Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday morning, Minister Kyofatogabye invited all Ugandans to join the President in celebrating what she described as a fundamental day in Uganda’s history.

On this day, President Museveni will award 61 medals to distinguished public servants who excelled during the preparations for the Non-Aligned Movement and G77+China summits held in Kampala in January 2024.

“These two summits gave Uganda global recognition. As a country, we received accolades for our meticulous approach to organizing these global events. Therefore, H.E. the President found it prudent to award medals to those who committed their extra time and expertise to make these summits successful,” the minister added.

As part of the preparations, Babalanda announced that the Office of the President, in conjunction with Bazungu e.V. and the Prince Kimbugwe Foundation, has organized an Eye Care medical camp. The camp runs from Wednesday, January 22, to Friday, January 24, 2025, at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, where people with eye diseases in the Greater Mubende area will receive free treatment.

“Up to six hundred eyeglasses will be distributed free of charge to those in need. The foundation will also conduct free eye surgeries at the Mubende Referral Hospital. Therefore, Ugandans, especially those in the Greater Mubende area, are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity,” Minister Kyofatogabye said.

This year marks 39 years since the National Resistance Movement/Army (NRM/NRA) bush war ended.
