President Museveni Set to Formalise 2026 NRM Presidential Candidacy
As Uganda prepares for the 2026 General Elections, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to officially submit his nomination for the position of National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the party’s presidential flag bearer.
The nomination is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 5th July 2025, at the NRM Electoral Commission offices. This development follows a series of nationwide wealth creation tours led by President Museveni, which focused on the implementation and progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
During these tours, which covered all 18 zones across the country, local leaders and citizens strongly encouraged the President to seek re-election. Many cited the continuity of leadership, peace, and stability as key reasons for their support, noting the consistent socio-economic progress Uganda has achieved under his stewardship since 1986.
The enthusiasm surrounding Museveni’s expected candidacy reflects broad appreciation for his administration’s achievements—especially in maintaining peace, which has underpinned growth in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
According to the NRM Electoral Commission guidelines, all aspirants for the positions of Party Chairman and Presidential flag bearer must collect at least 100 endorsement signatures from members of the National Conference representing various regions.
As of the time of reporting, President Museveni had successfully secured the required endorsements, signaling overwhelming support from within the party and across the country.
The endorsement process, coupled with widespread calls for him to remain in office, underscores a shared desire among NRM members and many Ugandans for continued stability and progress.
With his nomination imminent, the NRM is bracing for an energetic campaign season. There is a palpable sense of anticipation that Museveni’s candidacy will set the tone for a robust electoral process, anchored in aspirations for sustained national development.
