Police hunt for family members who murdered, buried their brother clandestinely
The police in Rukungiri are hunting for members of one family who are suspected to have murdered one of their own and buried him clandestinely.
ASP Maate Elly the PRO Kigezi region identifies the deceased as 37 years old Rahab Turinawe a casual labourer and resident of Katwekamwe cell, Rwentondo ward, Eastern division in Rukungiri district.
It is alleged that on 2/12/2022, at around 1800hrs, the deceased left home to go to the garden to plant trees. However, he never returned, until 13/12/2022 when his wife Annah Twijukye 36 years reported a case of disappearance at Rukungiri CPS.
However, his immediate family including the deceased’s mother Barekura Annah 70 years and her three other sons Kasiime, Nabaasa Dickson and Kanyesigye Allan immediately fled the village having sold a number of their belongings.
This prompted the residents to suspect that they could have killed the deceased due to land conflicts.
A search was mounted by the residents until yesterday 14/12/2022 at around 1830hrs when fresh dug soil was discovered at a stone quarry in a eucalyptus plantation belonging to one of the brothers Nabaasa Dickson.
Upon digging into the ground, the residents recovered Turinawe’s decomposing body, naked and wrapped in a sack. They notified the police at Rukungiri Cps.
The scene was visited by the Rukungiri homicide team and documented, while the body was identified by the relatives and conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center Ill for postmortem.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects whose whereabouts are still unknown.
