Police Arrest Four Suspected Gang Members in Kisoro
The Police in Kisoro District have arrested four suspects believed to be part of a criminal gang that has been terrorising residents of Kisoro Municipality in recent weeks. The operation also led to the recovery of several suspected stolen items.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the PRO Kigezi Region, the intelligence-led joint operation was conducted by the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in the early hours of Tuesday morning, October 14, 2025, at Rukyerubuga Cell in Southern Division, Kisoro Municipality.
The arrested suspects have been identified as: Nkuruziza Innocent, Niyigaba Enock, Niringiyimana Julius, and Ainebyona Marvin.
During the operation, security personnel recovered several items suspected to have been stolen, including one set of hoofers, three mattresses, and three motorcycles with registration numbers 242DA, 269DH, and 051FX.
Maate noted that the suspects failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the recovered property during searches conducted at their homes.
He further revealed that the arrests are part of a wider operation aimed at curbing an increase in cases of robbery and assault in Kisoro Municipality.
“Several operations have been conducted in the municipality, leading to the arrest and prosecution of several suspects. These efforts are intended to minimise the incidents of simple robberies where victims are attacked along roads or near their homes by unknown thugs who steal property and sometimes leave victims injured,” Maate said.
He urged members of the public who may have been victims of such robberies to visit Kisoro Central Police Station to help identify the recovered property and assist investigators in consolidating evidence.
